Psalms for Monday

Chapter 1
A Psalm of David, a song of dedication.
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have brought me down, and you have not let my enemies rejoice over me.
O Lord my God, I cry out to you, and you will heal me.
O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you have revived me from going down to the pit.
Sing to the Lord, O his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.
For he hath breathed life into his nostrils, in his will he weepeth in the evening, and in the morning he weepeth.
And I said, "In peace, I will not die forever."
O Lord, by your will you have established the mountain of strength; you have hidden your face, I would have been terrified.
To you, O Lord, I will call, and to my Lord I will make supplication.
What has happened to my blood? I have gone down to the pit of your wrath. The dust will tell your truth.
Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me: O Lord, be my help.
You have turned my mourning into a joy for me; you have opened my bags and filled me with joy.
For your glory shall sing praises, and your praise shall never cease, O Lord my God.
Chapter No.
To the victorious, a psalm of David.
In you, O Lord, I have been protected; I will never be put to shame. In your righteousness, deliver me.
Incline your ear to me, O Lord, save me quickly. Be to me a strong tower, a house of defense, to save me.
For you are my rock and my fortress; for your name's sake you will guide me and keep me.
Deliver me from this snare that they have laid hid for me: for thou art my strength.
Into your hand I commend my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, the true God.
I have hated vain watchmen: but I put my trust in the Lord.
I will be glad and rejoice in your mercy, for you have seen my affliction and have known the troubles of my soul.
And you did not close me up in the hand of the enemy; you stood at the place where my feet should be.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I have been afflicted with grief because of the anger of my eyes, my soul, and my body.
For my life is spent in sorrow, and my years in sighing; because of my iniquity my strength and my strength are spent.
I was a reproach to all my neighbors, and a terror to my acquaintances; they who saw me without fled from me.
I have forgotten the measure of my heart; I have become like a lost vessel.
For I have heard the slander of many rabbis, provoked by their surrounding, plotting against me to take my life.
But I put my trust in you, O Lord; I said, "You are my God."
In your hand I am saved from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.
Make your face shine upon your servant; save me in your mercy.
O Lord, do not be ashamed, for your calls will be made dry; the wicked will be like those who ask.
The lips of the liars who speak lies against the righteous, who are oppressed with pride and contempt.
How great is your goodness, which you have laid up for those who fear you, which you have wrought for those who trust in you against the sons of men!
You will hide them in the secret of your face from the charms of man; you will hide them in a shelter from strife for years.
Blessed be the Lord, for his mercy has been wonderful for me in a besieged city.
And I said, I will hasten to cut off my hair from before your eyes: yet you will hear the voice of my supplications when I cry unto you.
Let all his saints love the Lord, all his faithful ones, the Lord's protector, and he will reward them above all who do proud things.
Be strong and take courage, all you who hope in the Lord.
Heart chapter
To David, the wise man: Blessed are those who bear transgression, whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
Because I have been silent, my strength has been spent in my roaring all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; I turned my back on you in the summer heat of Selah.
I confessed my sin to you, and you did not cover my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," and you bore the guilt of my sin.
Therefore shall every faithful one pray to you in the time of an empty place, when many waters shall not reach it.
You have hidden from me the tribulation; you have created me, you have brought me forth; you have surrounded me with a snarl.
I will guide you and guide you in this way; I will counsel you with my eyes.
Do not be like a horse or a mule that does not understand the brand or the bridle, yet it is close to you.
Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but he who trusts in the Lord, mercy will surround him.
Rejoice in the Lord, and let the righteous be glad; let all the upright in heart be glad.
Chapter 3
Let us sing praises to the Lord, O righteous ones.
Give thanks to the Lord with the harp, with the ten strings, sing praises to him.
Sing to him a new song; make a joyful noise.
For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are in faith.
The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord, who loves righteousness and judgment.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth.
A gathering of the waters of the sea is given in the treasures of the deep.
Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the wilderness be afraid of him.
For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood firm.
The Lord brings to nothing the counsel of the nations, the devices of the peoples.
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose people the Lord his God has chosen as his inheritance.
The Lord looked down from heaven, and beheld all the children of men.
From the place of his habitation he looks out upon all the inhabitants of the earth.
The Creator of their hearts understands all their works.
A king is not saved by the multitude of a mighty army, nor is he saved by much strength.
The horse is a source of salvation, and its many soldiers will not be defeated.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy.
To save their souls from death and their lives from famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
For in him our heart shall rejoice: for in his holy name we trust.
May your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have desired you.
Chapter 3
David in his old age had his pleasure before Abimelech, and he drove him out and went away.
I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be in my mouth.
My soul shall rejoice in the Lord: the humble shall hear and be glad.
Magnify the Lord with me, and exalt his name together.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my troubles.
They looked at him and were filled with joy, and their faces were not troubled.
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man whom he will have mercy on.
Fear the Lord, you his saints, for there is no lack for those who fear him.
The wicked shall be weary and hungry, but they that seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.
Go, my children, hearken unto me, and I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
What man is there who desires life, who loves many days to see good?
Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.
Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers.
The Lord is with those who do evil, to cut off their memory from the earth.
They cried out, and the Lord heard them, and delivered them out of all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted; he saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Many are the evils of the righteous, but the Lord will deliver him from them all.
He preserves all his strength, not one of which is broken.
The death of the wicked is evil, but those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
The Lord redeems the souls of his servants, and none of those who trust in him will be condemned.
Chapter 1
To David, the Lord contends with my adversaries, with fire with my enemies.
Strengthen me with a shield and a shield, and rise with my help.
And I will empty the spear and close the door to the cry of my persecutors, saying to my soul, I am your salvation.
Those who seek my soul shall be ashamed and confounded; those who plot my harm shall be turned back and dig up.
They will be like vinegar before the wind, and the angel of the Lord will be like a rebuke.
Their way will be dark and slippery, and the angel of the Lord will pursue them.
For without cause have they hid their net for me; without cause have they dug for my soul.
He will not know when disaster will come upon him, and his net that he has hidden will catch him in disaster, and he will fall into it.
And my soul shall rejoice in the Lord, and shall rejoice in his salvation.
All my strength shall say, O Lord, who is like unto thee, which delivereth the poor from him that taketh it, and the needy and the poor from him that robbeth him?
Five witnesses will arise against me, whom I did not know; they will ask me.
They will repay me evil for good, a lesson for my soul.
And I, in their sickness, wore sackcloth, I afflicted my soul with fasting, and my prayer was turned upon my bosom.
As a friend or a brother to me, I walked like a mourner, as a mother mourns my destruction.
And in my bones they rejoiced and gathered themselves together: they gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not: they tore, and they bled not.
In the midst of my flattery, a cake of savoury bread has burned upon me.
O Lord, how often will you see my soul restored from its enemies, from the infidels, my only companion?
I will praise you in the great congregation, in the mighty people.
Let not my false enemies rejoice over me, they that hate me without cause wink the eye.
For they will not speak peace, and on the borders of the land they will devise deceitful things.
And they opened their mouths wide at me, saying, "Brother, brother, our eyes have seen you."
I have seen the Lord. Do not be silent, my Lord; do not be far from me.
The city and the fortress are my judges, my God and my Lord my adversary.
Judge me according to your righteousness, O Lord my God, and let them not rejoice over me.
Let them not say in their hearts, "Our brother is our soul." Let them not curse him.
They shall be ashamed and confounded together that rejoice at my evil: they shall be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.
Let those who desire righteousness rejoice and be glad, and let them say continually, "The Lord will be magnified, who desires the well-being of his servant."
And my tongue shall talk of your righteousness, your praise all the day long.
Chapter 1
To the one who gives victory to the servant of the Lord, to David.
A wicked speech is near my heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes.
For he has glorified himself with his eyes, to find out his sin, to hate it.
The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful, incapable of discerning what is good.
A wicked man will think upon his bed, and will set himself in a way that is not good, and evil will not be stricken.
O Lord, your mercy is in the heavens, your faithfulness endures forever.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God. Your judgments are like the abyss. You save both man and beast, O Lord.
How precious is your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of your wings!
Your house will be filled with food, and your gardens will be restored with the first fruits of your labor.
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light light is seen.
Your lovingkindness extends to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright in heart.
Do not let the foot of pride bring me near, and do not let the hand of the wicked condemn me.
There the workers of iniquity have fallen, they have been cast down, and they have not been able to rise.
Chapter 37
To David: "Do not compete with the wicked, do not envy the workers of iniquity."
For like the grass of the field they shall wither, and like the green herb they shall be cut down.
Trust in the Lord and do good, O inhabitant of the earth, and a faithful shepherd.
And delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord, and trust in him, and he will bring it to pass.
And your righteousness will go forth as the light, and your judgment as the noonday.
Be like the Lord, and be devoted to him. Do not compare yourself with him who prospers in his way, with a man who carries out schemes.
Let go of anger and forsake wrath; do not rebuke your neighbor.
For the shepherds will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.
And yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more; and you will consider his place, and he will not be.
But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him.
The Lord will mock him, for he sees that his day is coming.
The wicked have drawn the sword, and bent their bow to cast down the poor and needy, to slay the upright in their way.
Their sword will enter their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
Better is a little for the righteous than the multitude of wicked.
For the plants of the wicked will be destroyed, but the Lord will establish the trust of the righteous.
The Lord knows the days of the innocent, and their inheritance will be forever.
They will not be thirsty in the time of evil, and in the days of famine they will be satisfied.
For the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be consumed in smoke.
The wicked borrows and does not repay, but the righteous is gracious and gives.
For those blessed by him will inherit the land, but those cursed by him will be cut off.
The Lord judges a man's steps, and he determines his path.
Though he fall, he shall not be cast down: for the Lord upholdeth his hand.
I was young, and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
The whole day is blessed and full, and its seed is a blessing.
Depart from evil and do good, and dwell forever.
For the Lord loves justice and will not forsake his saints forever. They are preserved, but the seed of the wicked is cut off.
The righteous will inherit the land and live forever on it.
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks judgment.
The law of his God is in his heart; his blessings will not be forgotten.
The wicked watches the righteous and seeks to kill him.
The Lord will not abandon us to his hand, nor will he condemn us in his judgment.
Hope in the Lord and keep his way, and he will exalt you to the heights of the earth. When the wicked are cut off, you will see.
I have seen a wicked man, oppressive and rebellious, like a young man.
And he passed by, and, behold, he was not: and I sought him, but he was not found.
Keep thyself upright, and see that thou art after a man of peace.
And the transgressors shall be destroyed together, and the wicked shall be cut off.
And the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord, a strength in the time of trouble.
And the Lord will help them, and deliver them; he will deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they took refuge in him.
Wet season
A Psalm of David to remember.
O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, nor chasten me in thy wrath.
For your lips have touched me, and your hand has rested upon me.
There is no peace in my flesh because of your anger; there is no peace in my spirit because of my sin.
For my sins have gone over my head like a heavy burden; they are too heavy for me.
My friends were ashamed and ashamed because of my foolishness.
My abomination is my ruin, and I walk in gloom all day long.
For my baskets are full, and there is no end in my flesh.
I am faint and distressed, until I am greatly troubled by the groaning of my heart.
O Lord, all my desire is before you, and my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart is troubled; my strength has left me, and the light of my eyes is no more with me.
My lovers and my friends will stand against me, and my relatives will stand far away.
And they that seek my soul shall be cut off, and they that seek my hurt shall speak lies, and speak deceits all the day long.
But I, like a deaf man, do not hear, and like a mute man, do not open his mouth.
And I am like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth there are no reproofs.
For to you, O Lord, have I taken refuge; you, O Lord my God, will answer.
For I said, "They will rejoice over me, and they will exalt me over my footstool."
For I am a lame man, and my pain is always with me.
For I will declare my iniquity, and I will be careful of my sin.
And the enemies of life are strong, and those who hate lies are many.
And those who repay evil for good will curse me for pursuing good.
Do not forsake me, O Lord my God; do not be far from me.
I am afraid of the Lord my helper.
Chapter 3
To the one who gives victory to the hand of God, a Psalm of David.
I said, "I will guard my ways from sin; I will guard my tongue with a barrier, while the wicked rise up against me."
I became silent, I felt better, and my pain was relieved.
My heart is hot within me; in my meditation a fire burns; my words are on my tongue.
Make me know, O Lord, my end, and the measure of my days: what is the knowledge of what I am?
Behold, you have made my days a snare, and my bones like an enemy against you; all is vanity, every man stands as a pillar.
A man will walk in a shadow, but a fool will gather up a multitude, and he will not know who gathered them.
And now, what is my hope, my Lord? Is my hope in you?
Deliver me from all my transgressions; do not let the reproach of Nabal be upon me.
I was dumb, I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it.
Remove your touch from me; I am consumed by the sting of your hand.
In the midst of a man's anger, he is cut off, and his beauty melts like a pot. But all mankind is a fool.
Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my cry; be not silent to my tears, for I am a stranger with you, as all my fathers were.
Take away from me and bind me before I go and am no more.
Chapter 4
To the victorious David, a psalm.
My hope is in the Lord, and he inclines to me and hears my cry.
And he brought me up out of the pit of the high places of the Greeks, and set me upon the rock of my feet, the foundation of the Assyrians.
And he put a new song in my mouth, praise to our God. Many will fear and be afraid, and will trust in the Lord.
Blessed is the man who makes the name of the Lord his trust, and does not turn to cowards and false prophets.
Many things have you done, O Lord my God, your wonders and your thoughts toward us; there is no way to find you out. I will tell you and speak, they are too numerous to recount.
Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; you have required for me a burnt offering and sin offering, you have not required.
Then I said, "Behold, I have come with a scroll of a book written about me."
I delight to do your will, O my God, and your law is within my heart.
I have preached righteousness in the great congregation; behold, my lips shall not be empty; O Lord, thou knowest.
I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart; I have not declared your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not shared your lovingkindness and your truth with the great multitude.
You, O Lord, do not withhold your compassion from me; your lovingkindness and your truth will continually sustain me.
For evils have overtaken me without number; my sins have overtaken me, and I am unable to see; the hairs of my head have become black, and my heart has forsaken me.
The Lord willed to save me; the Lord was my helper.
Let them be weary and dig together that seek my soul to destroy it: let them be turned back, and let them perish that desire my evil.
They shall be put on the heel of those who say to me, "Brother, brother."
Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let those who love your salvation say continually, "The Lord is magnified."
But I am poor and needy; the Lord will remember me, my helper and my deliverer; my God, do not delay.
Chapter 1
To the victorious, a psalm of David.
Blessed is he who is considerate of the poor; the Lord will deliver him in the day of evil.
The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will prosper in the land, and will not abandon him to the will of his enemies.
The Lord will make him eat on a bed of gold; all his bed you have turned into his bed.
I said, "Lord, have mercy on me; heal my soul, for I have sinned against you."
My enemies will say, "Woe to me, when will I die and lose my name?"
And if he comes to see what is wrong, he will speak in his heart, and if he goes outside, he will speak.
All my enemies will whisper together against me; they will plot evil against me.
A wicked word is poured out upon him, and he who lies down will not rise again.
Even the man of my peace, in whom I trusted to eat my bread, has turned against me.
And you, O Lord, have mercy on me and raise me up, and I will repay them.
By this I know that you delight in me, because my enemy will not triumph over me.
And as for me, you will uphold me in my integrity and set me before you forever.
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting. Amen, amen.
Chapter 22
To the wise who will give victory to the sons of Korah.
As a deer pant for the watercourses, so pant my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When will I come and see the face of God?
My tears have been my bread day and night, saying to me all day long, Where is your God?
These things I will remember and pour out upon my soul, that I may go in sackcloth of blood unto the house of God, with the voice of joy and thanksgiving, with the multitude that rejoiceth.
Why should my soul be dismayed and cast down upon me? My strength is in God, for the salvation of his face is yet before us.
O God, my soul rejoices over me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan, and the Hermonites from Mount Misar.
Deep to deep it calls at the sound of your trumpets. All your waves and your waves have passed over me.
By day the Lord will command his mercy, and by night his song will be with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
I said to God my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go in sorrow because of the enemy's oppression?"
By my strength they have slain me, and my enemies have mocked me, saying unto me all the day long, Where is thy God?
Why should I be in despair, O my soul? Why should I be in dismay over you? My strength is in God; for the salvation of my soul and my God is yet before me.
Chapter Mag
Judge me, O God, and my cause is with a nation that is not righteous, but with a man that is not righteous. Deliver me from deceit and iniquity.
For you are my God, my strength. Why have you forsaken me? Why should I walk in gloom because of the enemy's oppression?
Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain and to your dwelling places.
And I will come to the altar of God, to God, the joy of my generation, and I will praise you with the harp of God, my God.
Why should I be in despair, O my soul? Why should I be in dismay over you? My strength is in God; for the salvation of my soul and my God is yet before me.
Chapter meter
To the sons of Korah, a wise man.
O God, with our ears we have heard, our fathers have told us, the work of their days, the days of old.
You have given your hand to the nations and scattered them; you have scattered the nations and scattered them.
For they did not inherit the land by their sword, and their wrath did not save them. For your right hand and your glory and the light of your countenance, because you desired them.
You are the King of God, the commandment of the salvation of Jacob.
In you we will fight, in your name we will rise up.
For I do not trust in my bow, and my sword will not save me.
For you have saved us from our troubles and from our enemies, our shame.
O God, we have sung all day long, and your name is praised forever. Selah.
You have forsaken us and deceived us, and you will not go out with our armies.
Let us sit behind me, O enemy, and let our enemies flee to him.
You will give us as sheep to be eaten, and you will scatter us among the nations.
You shall sell your people for naught, and you shall not increase their prices.
You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to those around us.
You have made us a proverb among the nations, a byword among the chiefs and among the peoples.
All day long you have spoken against me, and you have covered me with shame.
A harsh and blasphemous voice from an enemy and avenger.
All this you have brought upon us, and we have not forgotten you, nor have we lied in your covenant.
Our hearts will not turn back, and our souls will not depart from me.
For you have oppressed us in the place of figs, and have covered us with death.
If we have forgotten the name of our God and spread out our hands to a strange god,
Shall not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
For we have been slaughtered all day long for you; we have been considered as sheep for the slaughter.
Why do you sleep, O Lord? Do not abandon the wakefulness to victory.
Why do you hide your face, forgetting our cause and our affliction?
For our soul is turned to dust, our belly cleaves to the earth.
Arise, O Lord, and help us, and redeem us for the sake of your mercy.
Chapter 1
To the one who triumphs over the thorns, to the sons of Korah, who sings a song of friendship.
Whisper a good word to my heart, saying, "I will make my work for the king; my tongue is like the pen of a swift writer."
You are the most beautiful among the sons of men. Grace is poured into your lips. Therefore, God blesses you forever.
Gird your sword upon your thigh, the might of your hand and your foot.
And your path is a path of peace, riding on the word of truth and humility and righteousness, and your law is a lamp of fear at your right hand.
Your two-headed eagles will fall under you, and the hearts of the king's enemies will be crushed.
Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and your kingdom endures from generation to generation.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of Sassaniah above your companions.
Bitterness and torn tents are all your garments, from the temples of ivory, from me your joy.
The daughters of kings stand in your presence, a valley at your right hand, in the fields of Ophir.
Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline thine ear, and forget thy people, and thy father's house.
And the king shall be your comforter, for he is your lord, and you shall bow down to him.
And the daughter of Tyre, with a gift before you, the rich of the people will be sick.
All the glory of a king's daughter is within her, from the gold inlays on her clothing.
To embroider Tubal for the king with virgins, her companions are brought to you.
We will be filled with joy and gladness, and we will enter the temple of the King.
Your sons will be under your fathers; you will make them kings throughout all the land.
I will make your name known to all generations, so that the peoples may know you forever and ever.
Chapter 10
To give victory to the sons of Korah over the worlds of song.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we are not afraid of the earth's fury, nor of the mountains' height in the midst of the seas.
Yehmu shall be troubled by his waters, and the mountains shall roar with his overflowing tide.
The river and its streams shall make the city of God, holy and holy, rejoice in the dwellings of the Most High.
God is near her, lest she die, God will help her, facing the morning.
They shook nations, they overthrew kingdoms; at his voice the earth trembled.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Go and see the works of the Lord, which he has done in the earth.
He will make wars cease to the ends of the earth. He will break the bow and cut off the spear; he will burn the oxen in the fire.
Be still and know that I am a God exalted among the nations, exalted in the earth.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Chapter 14
To the sons of Korah, a psalm.
All you peoples, clap your hands and praise God with the sound of a trumpet.
For the Lord Most High is terrible, a great King over all the earth.
He will speak to the peoples under us, and to the nations under our feet.
He will choose for us our inheritance, the glory of Jacob, whom he loved in peace.
God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing to the gods, sing, sing, sing to our king, sing.
For the king of all the earth, the gods, have sung a wise song.
God is King over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.
The generous of the nations are gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham, for the Gods are the protectors of a land exceedingly blessed.
Chapter 1
A Song of Songs for the Sons of Korah.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
The whole land is beautiful, the whole land is beautiful, Mount Zion, the valleys of Zephon, the city of the great king.
God is known in her palaces for her worship.
For behold, the kings are afraid, they pass away together.
They saw this and were amazed, they were frightened, they were in a hurry.
Trembling seized them there, like a child in labor.
With the wind of the North, you will break the ships of Tarshish.
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts: in the city of our God, our God, we will make it a place for ever.
We have seen, O God, your mercy in the midst of your temple.
As is your name, O God, so is your praise to the ends of the earth; the righteousness of your right hand is full.
Mount Zion will rejoice, the daughters of Judah will be glad because of your judgments.
They surrounded Zion and surrounded her; they counted her great ones.
Put your heart into the army, destroy its palaces, that you may tell it to the next generation.
For this is our God, our God forever, and even in him we will lead over death.
Chapter 1
To the sons of Korah, a psalm.
Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all you inhabitants of Chaldea.
Even among the sons of men, even among the sons of man, there is one, rich and poor.
My mouth will speak wisdom, and my heart will meditate on understanding.
Come to a parable, I will open my ears with a psalm of my riddle.
Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity pursues me?
Those who trust in their wealth and in the abundance of their tithes will be glorified.
A brother cannot be redeemed, no man can give to God his ransom.
And the redemption of a soul is precious, and it is everlasting.
And he shall live forever, and shall not see corruption.
For the wise shall see their death, and they shall perish together, and leave their knowledge to others.
They brought them near in his days forever, their dwellings from generation to generation; they called upon their names in the earth.
And man visited, but the night was likened unto the beasts, and they were as the dead.
This is their way, a thorn in the flesh, and their backs will be filled with a thorn in their flesh.
Like sheep destined for Sheol, they will be led away to their death, and they will go down straight to the morning, and their flocks will be brought to the waste places of Sheol, from the dunghill to him.
But God will redeem my soul from the hand of Sheol, for he will take me away.
Do not be afraid because a man is rich, for the glory of his house will increase.
For he will not take away all at his death, nor will his glory descend after him.
For his soul shall bless thee in his life, and shall know thee, that it shall be well with thee.
He will come to the generation of his fathers, and they will not see the light until he is dead.
A man is wise and does not understand; he is likened to the beasts, who are likened to the beasts.
Chapter 5
A Psalm of Asaph. The Lord God spoke, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the setting thereof.
From Zion, from the midst of the wilderness, the beauty of God has appeared.
Our God will come, and will not be silent. A fire will devour before him, and all around him will be burned with fire.
He will call to the heavens from above and to the earth to judge his people.
My faithful ones gather to me the covenant offerings upon the altar.
And the heavens declared his righteousness, for God is judge, Selah.
Hear, my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will declare to you, I am God, your God.
I will not satisfy you with your sacrifices, nor with your burnt offerings continually before me.
I will not take from your house a single bullock of your burdens.
For all his life is like a forest with the beasts of the field on a thousand mountains.
I know every bird of the mountains, and the birds of my pasture move.
If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for I have both food and drink.
He who eats the flesh of knights and drinks the blood of warriors.
Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and pay to the Most High your vows.
And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall honor me.
And to the wicked God says, "What have you to do with me, that you should recite my statutes and take my covenant in your mouth?"
And you will hate discipline and throw my words behind you.
If you see a thief and run with him and with adulterers, you will be cut off.
You have uttered evil with your mouth, and your tongue has been set on deceit.
You shall sit among your brothers, you shall speak to your mother's son, you shall give me my lips.
These things you have done, and I have kept silent, saying, "I will be like you; I will bring you back and make you happy in your eyes."
Among us, behold, there are those who forget God, like a prey, and there is no one to save.
A sacrifice of thanksgiving shall glorify me, and there I will show you the way of salvation to God.
Prayer after the reading
Who will give the salvation of Israel from Zion, when the LORD brings back the captivity of his people, the deliverance of Jacob, the joy of Israel. And the salvation of the righteous is from me. He is strong in the time of trouble. And he will help them and deliver them, he will deliver them from the wicked and save them, because they take refuge in him.
May it be pleasing to You, O our God and the God of our fathers, that by the merit of the psalms of the Temples that we have read before You, and by the merit of their verses and their verses, and their letters and their dots, and their flavors, and by the merit of Your holy and pure names that emanate from them. That You may atone for us for all our sins and forgive us for all our iniquities, and forgive us for all our transgressions that we have sinned and transgressed and have transgressed against You. And bring us back in complete repentance to Your presence, and instruct us in Your service and open our hearts to the study of Your Torah. And send complete healing to the sick of Your people (and to the sick: to say the name of the sick person and the name of his mother). And you will call the captives "Deror" and the prisoners "Pekah Koh", and you will save all those who travel by road and cross the seas and rivers from your people Israel from all harm and destruction, and you will bring them to the stronghold of their desire for life and peace. And you will command all the children of darkness in the seed of the resurrection to serve you and fear you. And the children of your people, the house of Israel, you will save, so that they will not be oppressed and their children will be saved, and those who live on the plain, in your great mercy, you will save from all evil, and you will satisfy the nursing mothers, so that their breasts will not be deprived of milk. And let not drunkenness, and gluttony, and drunkenness, and all manner of evils and diseases, reign over all the children of thy people, the house of Israel. And thou shalt bring them up in thy law, to learn the law of thy name, and shalt deliver them from the evil eye, and from the wilderness, and from the plague, and from the devil, and from the evil creature. And you will remove from us and from all your people, the house of Israel, in every place of the wilderness, all the hard and bad regions, and you will incline the heart of the kingdom toward us for good. And cut off good branches for us, and send blessing and success in all the work of our hands, and prepare our barns from your hand, wide and full, and your people, the house of Israel, will not need one for another and not for another people, and give to each man according to his barn, and to each family according to his need. And hasten and hasten to redeem us, and build us a house of holiness, and glorify us. And by the merit of the thirteenth of Your hands of mercy, which are written in Your Torah, as it is said: O Lord, O Lord, a God merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and by no means returning empty from Your presence, help us, O God, and save us for the glory of Your name, and save us. And forgive our sins for your name's sake. Blessed be he forever, Amen and Amen.
